Midland Business Alliance Opposes Proposal 1, Citing Importance of Economic Stability

Published Thursday, October 22, 2026

The Midland Business Alliance (MBA) is encouraging Michigan voters to vote NO on Proposal 1 in the November 3, 2026, general election, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a stable and predictable environment for Michigan's business community.

Proposal 1 asks voters whether Michigan should convene a constitutional convention in 2027 to consider a general revision of the state's constitution.

Why Does the MBA Oppose Proposal 1?

A stable and predictable business environment is essential for economic growth, job creation, and long-term investment. Michigan's constitution establishes the foundation for state government and influences policies that impact businesses, employees, and communities throughout the state.

Opening the constitution for potential revision could introduce unnecessary uncertainty for employers and investors who depend on consistency when planning for the future.

Michigan already has an established process that allows voters to consider and approve individual constitutional amendments without opening the entire constitution for revision. The MBA believes this process provides opportunities for meaningful change while maintaining the stability businesses need to succeed.

What Happens if Proposal 1 Passes?

If Proposal 1 passes, elected delegates would convene in 2027 to consider revisions to Michigan's constitution.

Importantly, voters would have another opportunity to approve or reject any proposed constitutional changes before they could take effect.

Supporting Michigan's Economic Future

The Midland Business Alliance remains committed to advocating for policies that strengthen our business community, encourage investment, and support long-term economic growth.

For these reasons, the MBA opposes Proposal 1 and encourages Michigan voters to vote NO on November 3. Maintaining a stable business environment is critical to ensuring that Midland County and Michigan remain competitive places to do business.
