Published Monday, October 19, 2026

MIDLAND, MI – The Midland Business Alliance (MBA) has announced its support for two school funding proposals that will appear on the November 3, 2026, general election ballot: the Meridian Public Schools bond proposal and the Midland Public Schools sinking fund proposal.

The MBA Board of Directors formally approved a resolution supporting both proposals on August 3, 2026, recognizing the importance of investing in educational facilities, student safety and the development of a strong future workforce.

Representing approximately 3,100 businesses in the Midland area, the MBA believes that access to high-quality education is essential to preparing the next generation of workers and supporting the region's long-term economic success.

Supporting Meridian Public Schools

The MBA supports Meridian Public Schools' proposal to extend its current 7.0-mill levy by five years, through 2037, with no increase to the current tax rate. The proposal would generate approximately $13.9 million to address essential infrastructure repairs and facility improvements.

Funding would focus on critical needs, including roof replacements and repairs, HVAC upgrades, septic field replacement and security improvements.

With approximately 1,370 students enrolled and several buildings facing aging infrastructure, the proposal seeks to maintain safe and functional learning environments while addressing the district's long-term facility needs.

Supporting Midland Public Schools

The MBA also supports Midland Public Schools' proposed sinking fund, which would levy between 1.5 and 1.75 mills over a ten-year period, generating approximately $4.6 million to $5.4 million annually.

The funding would support repairs and maintenance, safety and security improvements, student transportation resources and technology enhancements throughout the district.

Midland Public Schools currently serves approximately 7,300 students, with many district facilities approaching or exceeding their useful life. The proposed sinking fund would provide dedicated resources to address these needs and support continued improvements to educational facilities.

Investing in Education and Midland County's Future

The MBA recognizes the financial challenges school districts face in maintaining facilities, updating technology and providing quality educational opportunities while managing limited operating budgets.

Both school districts proactively sought input from parents, staff and community members in developing their respective proposals.

Through its resolution, the MBA emphasizes that strong educational institutions contribute to a stronger workforce, improved quality of life and a positive business climate throughout Midland County.

The MBA believes that investing in safe, modern and effective learning environments is an investment in the community's future economic vitality and the next generation of workers.

Both proposals will appear on the November 3, 2026, general election ballot for voters in their respective school districts.

The resolution was approved by the Midland Business Alliance Board of Directors on August 3, 2026, and signed by Board Chairman Mike Williams and MBA President & CEO Tony Stamas.
