September 18, 2026 – Midland, Mich. – The Midland Business Alliance received a 2026 Excellence in Economic Development Silver Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The award was bestowed for the organization’s work in the Multimedia Promotion category for the 25,000-200,000 population group. Nicole Wilson, Vice President – Economic Development will be honored at the IEDC 2026 Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, October 25–28. 

"The Midland Business Alliance is leading the field of excellence in economic development with its Talentx initiative, its video series and moreover, how the team has positioned them for use. This award shines a spotlight on the MBA’s commitment to its community and employers and showcases the impact economic development has on both,” said Nathan Ohle, IEDC President and CEO. “IEDC is honored to present this award to the Midland Business Alliance to celebrate their leadership and innovation in the field."   

Each year, IEDC honors economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that consistently demonstrate excellence in the field. The honorees lead transformational projects that revitalize communities and advance the practice of economic development.

"The goal was never simply to create a series of videos. It was to translate Midland County’s community value proposition into something employers can use in recruitment, candidates can see themselves in and our community can rally around. I would like to thank my colleague Jason Story, who leads the Talentx initiative, and the Talentx Committee for their dedication and hard work on this project. Receiving this recognition from IEDC is especially meaningful because it affirms not only the quality of the work, but also the strategy and purpose behind it."

This year's awards take on special meaning, as IEDC celebrates its 100th anniversary. In recognizing excellence in economic development, IEDC and its partners are celebrating successes and shining a spotlight on programs that inspire and prepare the field for the next century of economic development.
