Member Spotlight: Holly Miller

Published Tuesday, June 10, 2025

We’re continuing our nonprofit and member spotlight series—this time with Holly Miller, President & CEO of United Way of Midland County.
Before stepping into nonprofit leadership, Holly built a successful career in the corporate world, working in advertising, writing, and graphic design—including running her own ad agency. But over time, she found herself more drawn to volunteer work than client work. “I was spending a lot of my time volunteering around at-risk youth, serving on the school board, and mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters,” she said. That passion led her to take a bold leap into the nonprofit world nearly two decades ago—a decision she says was the best of her career.
Today, Holly leads United Way of Midland County with a vision grounded in collaboration. “In its simplest form, we bring the community together to create change for everyone,” she said. “We envision a community where everyone is thriving and living their best life.”
The true power of United Way lies not just in our committed staff, but in the community itself—people lending their time, expertise, voices, and dollars to make an impact.
This year, United Way of Midland County celebrates 105 years of service. Holly reflected on the longevity of that mission and what has remained constant: “We’ve continued to be a community that cares about people. And while many of the people who created this culture may no longer be with us, it’s now our responsibility to carry that legacy forward.”
Earlier this year, Holly was recognized with the ATHENA Award at the Midland Business Alliance Annual Meeting, an honor she calls humbling and deeply meaningful. “It represents selfless leadership—empowering the next generation, looking back to help others rise,” she said. “And I’ve had so many incredible women do that for me.”
At the heart of United Way’s work are the 25 partner agencies they collaborate with daily to understand the community’s evolving needs and tackle them together. “Collaboration is really the key,” Holly emphasized. “And it’s an untold story in our community.”
