Starting with Tony: A Story of Community and Growth
For decades, 2025 Midland Blooms has been more than just a beautification project—it has been a symbol of community, dedication, and pride. As we gear up for Give Local on May 6th, supported by the Midland Area Community Foundation we want to tell the stories of those who have been a part of Midland Blooms and have seen firsthand the impact it has on our city. And who better to start with than Tony Stamas, President and CEO of the Midland Business Alliance, who has a deep connection to Midland Blooms dating back to the mid-90s?
Tony recalls first getting involved with Midland Blooms when he was already serving as a county commissioner. Like many in the community, he was drawn to the initiative by a call to action—one organization or another inviting people to step up and contribute. "It’s a great project for the community," he says. Over the years, Tony has seen just how much this initiative resonates, even beyond Midland.
"I’ve had friends visit from Wisconsin, and one of the first things they noticed was the flowers along Eastman Avenue. They were blown away by how beautiful it was," he shares. "It’s a wonderful welcome to Midland."
Midland Blooms isn’t just about planting flowers—it’s about planting connections. Every year, 500 to 600 volunteers, spanning all ages and backgrounds, come together on a Saturday morning to make the city a little brighter. "It’s incredible to see young children out there with their families, retired individuals, and everyone in between. It’s a connectivity point for our community," Tony reflects.
For many organizations, the event has become a tradition. Groups set up tents, bring donuts and cider, and turn it into a gathering that fosters camaraderie. "It’s an event in itself, something people look forward to," Tony adds. "We are fortunate to have a community that values this kind of connection, and Midland Blooms is one of those special projects that we want to keep and maintain."
Midland Blooms is not just about flowers—it’s about people, pride, and the spirit of giving back. This Give Local on May 6th, let’s ensure that this tradition continues for years to come. Keep Blooming!
