Tommy’s Express Car Wash: Community at the Core
What brought Tom Terry to Tommy's Express Car Wash wasn’t just a career change—it was a values alignment.
After years working in fast-paced restaurant and retail management, Tom was ready to reclaim more time with his family and work for an organization that truly walked the walk. He posted his resume online—and the owners of Tommy’s found him.
“From my first conversation with Todd, one of the owners, I could tell this was someone I wanted to work for,” Tom said. “And it became clear quickly that Tommy’s isn’t just about car washes. It’s about community.”
That community commitment is showing up all over Midland. Since opening at 1303 S. Saginaw Road, the team has sponsored local sports teams, adopted a dog named Brody through the Humane Society, partnered with Midland High’s Drama Club for a Tunnel of Terror this fall, and raised funds for organizations like United Way and The Humane Society through themed car wash weekends.
“We’re putting our stamp on the community. We’re not just talking about it—we’re backing it up,” Tom said. “Whether it’s giving away backpacks to students or recognizing student-athletes on our reader board, it’s about showing people we care.”
The public has taken notice. Tom shared that some guests visit simply because they saw their student-athletes recognized on the sign outside. “That kind of response—that’s what this is all about.”
With over 250 locations across the U.S. (and now even in France!), Tommy’s Express is growing fast—and Midland was one of the first Michigan cities chosen for expansion. Bay City is next in line.
As Tom puts it: “This business model is scalable, but the personal connection stays local. We’re proud to be here, and proud to give back.”
🙌 The Midland Business Alliance is proud to have Tommy’s Express Car Wash as part of our business community—where clean cars and community care go hand in hand.
