Continuing our business profile series, we sat down with the co-founders of Nord Social —Grant Murschel, Brad Tunney, and Haley Tunney—to learn more about their vision, values, and what this new gathering space means for Midland.
What started as a chance conversation quickly evolved into a meaningful collaboration between three community-minded individuals, each bringing their unique background and energy into the mix.
The idea was sparked in early 2024, when Brad Tunney first appeared on the Max Loves Midland podcast. Around the same time, Grant Murschel had recently purchased a building in Midland’s Center City and was exploring ideas for a new community space. When he heard Brad’s vision for investment and growth in Midland, it resonated. A conversation followed—and quickly turned into something bigger.
As Brad recalls, “It all came together fast. I met with Grant, and while the original idea has evolved a lot since then, what’s never changed is the heart behind it—creating a space that brings people together.”
Soon after, Brad’s wife Haley joined the effort, adding creative input and helping define the look, feel, and overall experience of what would become Nord Social. “The aesthetic and atmosphere were a big part of the vision,” Haley shared. “Together, we’ve landed on something that feels personal, warm, and inviting—something we’re proud to share with the Midland community.”
The team emphasized that while the concept of Nord Social has shifted over time, the mission remains the same: to build a space that feels like an extension of your living room—a relaxed, approachable venue where people can gather, connect, and return time and time again.
Located in the Center City neighborhood, the choice of location was intentional. “This area didn’t have a lot of options for gathering places,” Grant said. “We wanted to change that by creating a space that invites people in and becomes part of their daily rhythm—whether you’re walking, biking, or Vespa-ing here.”
Brad echoed that sentiment: “We’re thinking about talent retention, neighborhood vitality, and offering something unique to the city. But more than anything, it’s about giving the community a place to be together.”
Though the team has experienced some delays, the excitement and support from the community have never wavered. “Since we shared the concept publicly, the response has been incredible,” Grant said. “It’s just made us more excited and more ready. We’re still aiming to open this summer, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
As opening day approaches, the finishing touches are being made—from menu finalization to artwork, staffing, and creating those small, intentional details that will make Nord Social feel like home.
This isn't just a new business—it's a story of vision, collaboration, and community. And when the doors officially open, Midland will gain more than just a new hangout spot—it will gain a space built by people who believe in what Midland can be.
