Midland, Michigan – On Thursday, March 20, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct on open house in Midland to share information about the General Investigation (GI) study and to listen to the public’s experiences and ideas around legacy flooding. The open house will run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 3 to 6 p.m. The open house format allows community members to come and go as their schedules allow and to select the “information stations” of interest to them. No prior registration is needed.
The open house will be held at the Midland City Hall, 333 W. Ellsworth, in the first-floor Council Chambers. The Corps of Engineers is hosted by the study’s local partners: the County of Midland, City of Midland, and the Midland Business Alliance (MBA) Advisory Committee on Infrastructure.
The GI study is the second Corps of Engineers study to look at the Tittabawassee River Watershed and its flooding. This planned three-year study is focused on managing flood risks to life and safety, reducing damages to property, and determining the cost benefit and feasibility of potential projects.
In November 2024, the GI study kicked off with a three-day planning meeting that included the Corps of Engineers, federal and state agencies, the local partners and community stakeholders. The local partners have been collecting and sharing historical flood damage data with the Corps of Engineers since that time.
About the MBA Advisory Committee on Infrastructure
Formed in 2021 by the Midland Business Alliance Board of Directors, the advisory committee’s structure is made up of MBA board members, members of the community at large, an MBA staff representative, and ex officio (non-voting) representatives from the Four Lakes Task Force, the
County of Midland and the City of Midland. The committee was charged with determining how best to work with local, state and federal partners to address longstanding issues that impact citizens, the business community and economic development. The first task was to address legacy flooding challenges and related sanitary sewer issues. In addition to communicating with stakeholders and collaborators, the committee also reports back regularly to the MBA Board of Directors. Visit www.MBAmi.org/FloodStudy for more information.
